NemoTech - the Big Picture

NemoTech consists of a chain of cutting-edge technologies that will link to completely revolutionize the making of ITE hearing instruments.
It begins with recording the wearer’s ear anatomy, treats these data with an expert system, incorporates the manufacturing of the instrument and goes right through to the fitting and delivery of the finished product.
NemoTech offers state-of-the-art computerized support to this entire process.

The human ear

The human ear and auditory canal
The starting point - the most complex human organ, with the uniqueness of a fingerprint.

Impression of the ear

The impression of the ear
The hearingcare professional takes an impression of the ear. Here lies the key to the later successful exploitation of NemoTech.
3-D laser scanning

3-D laser scanning
Specially created high-end optics are used to scan the impression taking 100,000 data points to a degree of precision down to the micron. By viewing from various positions and angles on screen, the shape is reconstructed perfectly without any undercuts or hidden areas.
Shell modeling

Shell modeling
The digitized impression of the ear is then finished on-screen by the Phonak experts in order to produce the best possible fit. For each shell the functional structures such as shell walls, venting paths and mounting frames for electronic components are designed in a virtual space.
Sintering (shell fabrication)

Sintering (shell fabrication)
Producing the shell with sintering technology ensures accuracy and biocompatibility. The basis is thin layers of polyamide powder deposits, solidified into plastic by laser.
Surface finish

Surface finish
The outer surface of the shell is smoothed in the Phonak laboratory in order to preserve the exact shape and intricate details of its structure. A skin-like texture ensures a firm fit and good retention in the ear.
Assembly and quality control

Assembly and quality control
Electronic assembly by skilled technicians has the valuable support of computer technology since the desired result can be seen and adapted on screen. NemoTech also facilitates highly sophisticated quality control procedures.
The hearing instrument in the ear

The hearing instrument in the ear
The hearingcare professional receives a perfect replica in a very short time. The wearers will be fit with an ITE instrument that sits comfortably in the ear.
